The 81st FS began operated in 1994 with A/OA-10 and participated with their Thunderbolts in Operation Deny Flight over Bosnia and Herzegovina, Operations Northern and Southern Watch over Iraq, Operation Allied Force during the crisis in Kosovo and Operation Enduring Freedom from Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.
