A3-42 / 42 (cn G042) Rare low res view of 77 Squadron Mirage IIIO(F/A) A3-42 parked on the RAAF Wagga Parade Ground in 1986. (This location suggests that she was not being used as a Training Aid by the RAAF School of Technical Training (RAAFSTT.) This Retired 'Miracle' has two 286 Imp Gal (1300 litre) external fuel tanks fitted. (A3-72 was also occupying a corner of the Parade Ground that day.) I also photographed A3-42 on display at the Drage Aviation Museum at Wangaratta in 1997. This is one of the few RAAF Mirages which escaped being stored at Woomera and sold to Pakistan. Apologies for the low quality of this photo. |

A3-19 (cn 19) The Deltas Mirage Aerobatic Team does a flypast in Vic Formation, while trailing smoke, during a practice Display at Williamtown in 1971. The Team Leader, CO 77Squadron (Wg Cdr Bill Simmonds) is shown re-joining the formation, flying the CO's aircraft A3-19. The Team was practising for the imminent RAAF 50th Anniversary Air Displays. The Team had a Naming competition. I offered 'MATRAs' (Mirage Aerobatic Team RAAF Anniversary), which was too similar to a French missle makers name. The 'Deltas' entry won. |

A3-21 (cn 21) Photo taken by my father, Peter Eyre. Nice line-up of Mirage tails of 75 Sqn, based at RAAF Darwin,NT. Left to right: A3-21, A3-73, A3-24, A3-33, A3-9, A3-96, A3-6. 75 Sqn was last in the RAAF to operate the Mirage III (until Sep 1988), as 3 Sqn had already converted to F/A-18A and 77 Sqn was in process of converting. 79 Sqn in Butterworth, Malaysia was also still flying the Mirage III, but only until 4.88. These aircraft all later went to the Pakistan Air Force, and are believed to still be in service. |
