USS Ranger was decommissioned on 10 July 1993 and is now berthed at Bremerton, Washington, and a group is campaigning to have her converted to a museum. |

162603 / NE-103 (cn 525) VF-1 "Wolfpack", CVW-2, USS Ranger (CV-61), off Fremantle. This F-14 scored only air-to-air kill by an F-14 during Operation Desert Storm. On 06.02.1991, crewed by Lt. Stuart Broce & Cmdr Ron McElraftit, it shot down an Iraqi Mil Mi-8 helicopter, with an AIM-9 Sidewinder missile. This F-14 was written-off 23 June 2000 in the Pacific Ocean, 1400 mi SW of Hawaii, when with VF-211. It crashed into the sea after being launched from USS John C. Stennis, possibly due to a cold cat shot. Crew ejected safely. |
