53-8074 (cn KF-177) Another photo from my 1987 AMARC visit, this was a row of five Fairchild C-119L 'Flying Boxcars' with 53-8074 in the front. They had all last flown with Special Operations Squadrons, specifically with California, Rhode Island and West Virginia Air National Guards. All were retired to MASDC in 1975 and their hulks were sold in 1990. |

53-8087 (cn KF-190) My first US trip included a highly rewarding excursion to the USAF Museum at Wright Field. This great old West Virginia ANG bird was shot from the pool of my nearby lodgings. In 1971 she visited Greenham Common, UK, from her Charleston base as a C-119G with 4-blade props but was modified to 'L' standard with 3 blades soon after. At one point she was also a test bed for Stealth technology, painted black with special $300/gallon paint. The frame still survives, exhibited at Fort Bragg, NC |

N9027K (cn KF-176) In 1992 most C-82's and C-119's at Anchorage were sold to Hawkins and Powers and moved to their base at Greybull in Wyoming. A few C-119's stayed behind, but most of them later also departed to other airfields, such as Fairbanks or Palmer. In fact this N9027K (ex 53-8073) is the only one remaining at Anchorage today. |

N90267 (cn KF-257) being used as a spares source, possibly by Northern Pacific Transport. A sad end for former USAF Flying Boxcar 53-8154 and ex civil N4999P. By 1996 it was completely scrapped, and the forward fuselage is now at Greybull, WY. |

53-8074 (cn KF-177) This C-119L entered MASDC in March 1975 and when photographed 12 years later she was clearly not going to fly out again. She was transferred to an adjacent scrapyard and is believed to have been melted into ingots since. She would have last served with one of three ANG air commando/special operations squadrons. |

N37636 (cn KF-253) Painted as USAF 53-8150 "Georgia Box", in formation with US-2B Tracker "Georgia Tracker" at Atlanta Airshow '90. Both aircraft were part of the (flyable) collection of the Air Acres Museum, Cartersville, Georgia, owned and operated by Dave Brady. About a year later, he was tragically killed in a midair collision; the assets of the museum were eventually liquidated. |
