Lockheed YF-117A Nighthawk
Dayton - Wright-Patterson AFB (Wright AFB) (DWF) (closed)
USA - Ohio, April 16, 2014
Remark
Photographer
79-10781 / ED (cn A.4006) "National Museum of the US Air Force" The world's first operational stealth fighter. Most famous for its raids over Baghdad during Operation Desert. While it is nowadays believed that its successes during that campaign were a bit overstated, it certainly played a vital role by attacking high priority ground targets. Seen here is the Nighthawk's second prototype. [Nikon D800 / AF-S Nikkor 16-35mm]

USA - California, October 23, 2005
Remark
Photographer
79-10782 / ED (cn A.4007) On the 2nd day of the Edwards show this beautifully painted Stealth Fighter made a fly-by with the gear down. Wearing the amazing Stars and Stripes scheme for the 2nd and last time of its career, after the Edwards show it was transferred from Palmdale to Holloman AFB for static display.

Remark
Photographer
79-10783 / ED (cn A.4008) This front view of the F-117 resembles me the Las Vegas Luxor Hotel, the black pyramid where I had spent the previous night … :-)

Palmdale - Production Flight Test Installation AF Plant 42 (PMD / KPMD)
USA - California, November 20, 2006
Remark
Photographer
79-10784 / ED (cn A.4009) This Stealth Fighter is used for flight testing and you may note a small orange pod close to the left main gear, which purpose is unknown to me and which might compromise the Stealth abilities of this jet. This F-117 is operated by the 412th Test Wing, 410th FTS, based at Palmdale, the famous Skunk Works.
