N13-154910 / 889 (cn 13783) This strategically mobile Military Airfield is the Royal Australian Navy's Aircraft Carrier HMAS MELBOURNE, at Garden Island Dockyard, Sydney on a hazy day in 1969. She was in her hey-day in 1969, flying Skyhawk and Tracker aircraft and Wessex helicopters. Skyhawk Code 889 is visible on her deck. Code 889 was N13-154910, acquired in 1967, and written off when she ditched off HMAS MELBOURNE on 08Nov1973. The ship was paid off on 30June1982, and was towed out of Sydney for scrap metal in May 1984. |
