USA - Marines
McDonnell Douglas F/A-18B Hornet
Marietta - Dobbins ARB (Atlanta NAS) (MGE / KMGE)
USA - Georgia, December 6, 1993
Remark
Photographer
161938 / MG-000 (cn 0143/B034) Triple Zilch!! The sight of any US Navy or Marine aircraft carry a triple-0 side number is rare; it's usually reserved for admirals or generals. This early production Hornet bears such a number; its assigned unit is VMFA-321 Hells Angels, NAF Washington DC, so this would pertain to the Commanding General of the 4th Marine Air Wing (Marine Air Reserve). I was informed the markings were incomplete at this point. Apparently, the general's call sign was "Clam", as seen in the blue-gray area at the top of the tail.

161354 / 7 (cn 0022/B005) A Blue Angels two-seater points its nose almost directly at the photographer as it taxies toward its assigned spot on the NAS Atlanta t-line. This angle reveals the high level of maintenance that has achieved an almost perfect finish.

161354 / 7 (cn 0022/B005) A "celebrity" Hornet taxies toward the NAS Atlanta t-line on a serenely beautiful fall afternoon. Carrying the unmistakable color scheme of the US Navy Flight Demonstration Sqn. Blue Angels (down to the pilots' yellow helmets!), this is the narrator's plane; it also happens to be a very early production two-seater (4th one).

Remark

A21-110 (cn 0413/ATF110) This was one of a pair of twin-tubs arriving for the Wings Over the Illawarra 2014 airshow. Delivered to the RAAF in 1987, it still wears its '20 Years of RAAF Hornet Operations' special markings from 9 years ago!
