This must be the most amazing flying object I have ever seen! This is one of only two or three built Mi-12's, the world's largest helicopters. A helicopter of a size I hardly can imagine it would fly! |

Everything looks small in the vicinity of the Mi-12. [Editor's note: this is not CCCP-21142, which is stored inside the Mil prototype factory at Lyubertsy-Panki.] |

Giant's nose - something close to B747 or A380. Two decks and 4 engines - looks more like aircraft than helicopter. |

That's it - helicopter version of A380! :) The world's largest helicopter - it was example of Soviet approach - amaze by size. This giant had the not lucky fate to be a rarity instead of mass production. This one is the second of only two built, and it never carried a registration. The first (CCCP-21142) is stored inside the Mil prototype factory at Lyubertsy-Panki (not crashed as reported by Western media at the time). |

The world's largest helicopter is giving cover to two "small" fighters. The blue of the Su-35 nicely reflects on the engine nacelle and the wing. Minolta Dynax 4 + Minolta 3.5-5.6 / 28-80 + Fuji Provia 100F + Minolta Dimage Scan Elite II + crappy, rainy weather ;-). |

Experimental helicopter which first flew in 1969. It is the largest helicopter in the world due both to its lifting capacity and its size. In August of 1969, the Mi-12 lifted 88,636 lb (44 tons!) to a height of 7,398 feet. |

CCCP-21142 / H-833 Unless a NATO reconnaissance aircraft photographed it over the Baltic, I believe I am the first in the "Free World" to see it!! It was the big surprise at the Paris Salon that year, but it was also a big surprise for me when it came to Copenhagen for re-fuelling a few days earlier. Note the airshow number H-833. |
