HS-KVU (cn 2097) Rotating off Runway 09 for 2nd sector to Ranong. Captured this airline and our YS-11's better day in the Paradise. I am still wondering who was flying this very strange route...perhaps "Casino" guest I think. [RVP100] |

HS-KVU (cn 2097) I finally got KVU with afternoon perfect light! KVU about to line up Rwy 09 as 9R377 back to BKK instead of their B737!! I prefer white YS-11 better than red one! |

JA8735 (cn 2108) Is accelerating on runway 14 bound for Hakodate in a drizzle. Two or three persons are clearly visible through the windows. They are most likely to read the newspaper since it is a business route. After 38 years of faithful service, YS-11s will completely be retired from the ANA/ANK group at the end of August 31, 2003. It is truly the end of an era for the aviation history in Japan. This photo goes to all the people who love this aircraft, and my little appreciation for many wonderful memories in Japan. |

JA8727 (cn 2095) Has just arrived at Iki Airport after 25 min hopping flight from Fukuoka. I am appreciated the very cooperative crew for demonstrating me the warning system. As this aircraft later overran the runway during snowy landing at Sapporo Okadama Airport (OKD/RJCO) in 2000; the fuselage was used for a "dropping-down test" to better understand the damage for passengers during an accident. Permission has been given for photo archive from Captain Shizuo Hara and First Officer Kenzo Shirakawa. |

JA8731 (cn 2099) Is making an initial 180 degree turn shortly after taking off from Osaka Itami to Kochi (KCZ) as ANK405. The airport where we departed is visible on the top. LOOK down there! GUESS what is the shape of the islands in the lake? YES! That is Japan!! Indeed, we ARE flying over Japan. (Of course, the islands were artificially made.) Funny, isn't it? This aircraft continued to serve for Air Nippon until the end of 1995, and now preserved in Kakamigahara Aerospace Museum, Gifu, Japan in ANK color. |

JA8732 (cn 2101) Is on short final for runway 32L at Osaka Itami. Low setting sun makes the appearance of YS-11 silhouetted in this photograph. Since I have never manipulated the color (taken on Velvia 50 though), due to the volcanic eruption occurred in Philippine (Mt. Pinatubo - starting on June 12, 1991), ash in the stratosphere made the sunset color so red/orange. This aircraft continued to fly for Air Nippon until 1997, and is now preserved in the Tokorozawa Aviation Museum, Saitama, Japan in Air Nippon livery. |

JA8727 (cn 2095) Arrived from Hakodate (HKD/RJCH) and proceeding to the designated parking spot. In my opinion, YS-11 fits better with the snowy locations for photography. As the YS-11 for ANA/ANK group had already been completed on August 31, 2003, they have operated 42 YS-11s in total for 38 years. Domestically, ANA YS-11 had been introduced to the Japanese people when it carried the torch for Tokyo Olympic in 1964 (Naha - Kagoshima - Miyazaki - Nagoya - Komatsu - Niigata - Akita - Sapporo); hence the company calls YS-11 as "Olympia." |

JA8735 (cn 2108) Has just arrived from Sapporo Okadama (OKD/RJCO). This airport is located 180 miles east of Sapporo on Hokkaido Island. Because of the poor visibility, this airplane has been held over the airport for more than 30 minutes. Although the crew had to go around once, they finally landed safely. People at the observation deck who watched the entire scene were relieved. Despite a few flights, this airport has wonderful surroundings with numerous flowers blooming simultaneously in the middle of May. |

JA8729 (cn 2097) Is taking off from runway 04 at Oshima Airport at the east coast of Oshima Island - 73 miles south of Tokyo. As not so many people outside Japan know about YS-11, it has been playing an important role for local air travel in Japan. I regret to say it might be the only and presumably the last commercial aircraft made by Japan after WWII. This is one of the last examples captured in front of the Mt. Fuji - the icon of the land of the rising sun. This aircraft is now flying for Phuket Air as HS-KVU. |
