Sweden - Air Force
North American Tp86 Sabreliner (NA-282-40)
Northolt (NHT / EGWU)
UK - England, March 14, 2013
Remark
Photographer
86001 / 861 (cn 282-49) Such a rare aircraft to see, so no wonder it generated so much excitement for the crowd gathered at this nightshoot. Because it flies so little and rarely ventures outside Sweden, we were very lucky to spend the evening photographing it!

Remark
Photographer
86001 / 861 (cn 282-49) This aircraft, devoid of it's usual twin antenna booms fitted to support the CARABAS (Coherent All Radio Band System) VHF Synthetic Aperture Radar trials, is operated by the Swedish National Defense Research Establishment. The aircraft only flies for around 20 hours per year!

North American Tp86 Sabreliner (NA-282-40)
Northolt (NHT / EGWU)
UK - England, March 14, 2013
Remark
Photographer
86001 / 861 (cn 282-49) Built in 1965, this Sabreliner was acquired by the Swedish Air Force in the 1980s and now performs the duty of a flying testbed for applications like ultra-wideband ground surveillance synthetic aperture radar (SAR). It is usually fitted with two long probes that run parallel to the fuselage for purposes of CARABAS (Coherent All Radio Band System). These are removed if the aircraft has to go above the altitude of 20,000 feet. This Sabreliner barely flies 20 hours annually, having last visited the United Kingdom back in 1992.

Northolt (NHT / EGWU)
UK - England, March 14, 2013
Remark
Photographer
86001 / 861 (cn 282-49) Undoubted star of RAF Northolt Charity Night-shoot XIV was this 48 year-old Sabreliner from Malmen Ab, Linköping. Used as a testbed for electronics including ultra-wideband ground surveillance synthetic aperture radar, it usually carries long probes, removed for flights over FL22. Acquired in 1980 and only flown for around 20 hrs p/a, a rare appearance indeed outside Sweden, a 6-stop trip to Thailand being one of few other foreign flights. A sister-ship (86002) was retired in 2005, now a ground trainer
