Untitled
Northrop P-61B Black Widow
Reading - Regional / Carl A Spaatz Field (Municipal) (RDG / KRDG)
USA - Pennsylvania, June 6, 2014
Remark
Photographer
N550NF / 42-39445 (cn 964) Looking towards the rear of the Black Widow through where the gunner's chair would be. The hole in the back is where the GE remote-controlled power turret was located; which could be operated by both the front and rear (radio operator) gunners as well as the the pilot.

USA - Air Force
Northrop P-61C Black Widow
Dayton - Wright-Patterson AFB (Wright AFB) (DWF) (closed)
USA - Ohio, April 16, 2014
Remark
Photographer
42-39468 (cn 1399) "National Museum of the US Air Force" Actual 43-8353. The Black Widow was the first USAF operated aircraft especially designed for night interception and the use of radar. Only 700 were built but they were successfully used in all theaters of operation during WWII. The much improved -C variant came too late to see any combat action contrary to the -B version which the displayed P-61C is supposed to represent. [Nikon D800 / AF-S Nikkor 16-35mm]

USA - Air Force
Northrop P-61C Black Widow
Washington - Dulles International (IAD / KIAD)
USA - Virginia, April 17, 2013
Remark
Photographer
43-8330 / FK-330 (cn 1376) This P-61 was donated to the National Air Museum (as it was then known) as early as 1950, after five years of test work. However, NACA soon asked to borrow it for high-altitude experimental work. After about 50 flights as a mothership, dropping recoverable swept-wing test bodies, it was returned in 1954 to museum storage. Some 52 years later, it was unveiled for display in original test markings

Remark
Photographer
N550NF / 42-39445 (cn 964) One of only four surviving P-61s in existence and under extensive restoration, this very rare and unique Black Widow is one step closer to gracing the skies again. Improvements include new wiring and a Pratt & Whitney R-2800-65 Double Wasp 18-Cylinder engine to be installed shortly.

Untitled
Northrop P-61B Black Widow
Reading - Regional / Carl A Spaatz Field (Municipal) (RDG / KRDG)
USA - Pennsylvania, June 4, 2010
Remark
Photographer
N550NF / 42-39445 (cn 964) This 13th Air Force, 550th Night Fighter Squadron P-61 Black Widow crashed during a test flight on Cyclops Mountain, New Guinea on January 10, 1945. She sat undisturbed for 40 years until a team from the Mid Atlantic Air Museum (MAAM) recovered her. MAAM volunteers are restoring the aircraft with about 70% new construction. When restoration of this rare bird is complete, she will be able to do something the three other extant P-61s can’t do—she will fly!
