D-EATJ (cn 001) This first prototype made it's maiden flight on 27th October 1977 powered by two NSU Wankel engines, these were later replaced with an Allison 250 Turboshaft engine.

F18-*/* Thailand was the only country in the world that operated this type of aircraft. The operatioal life was short, only 6 years, due to the unsatisfactional performance. 4 aircraft are now preserved at the Royal Thai Air Force Museum near Don Muang.

D-EATP (cn 011) Operated by Rhein-Flugzeugbau GmbH. Wears red top displayed at Farnborough 1988. Is a two-seat flight training aircraft using a mid mounted ducted fan propulsion system, using a 545 shp Allison 250-C20B engine. First flight was October 27, 1977. Was evaluated by Lufthwaffe during 1986 as 98+77. Royal Thai Air Force ordered 31 (29 kits assembled in Thailand) which were assigned to 402 Squadron used as step up pilot trainers to Northrop F-5 Freedom Fighter.
