62-4284 / RM (cn D354) Originally 61-0159, this Thud has been redecorated as "Mary Kay" which gained fame in the Vietnam War by downing three MiGs. This was the only F-105 to gain this distinction. |

61-0159 (cn D354) This is a second view of a Republic F-105D and a Republic P-47D in flight together that I have submitted to Airliners.net. The first view seemed to have some success so I dug up another. I think I have a color version somewhere, I'll try to find it. The Virginia Air National Guard F-105D 61-159 escorted the P-47D N47DA out of Richmond after an airshow in 1972. F-105D 61-159 is a MiG Killer and is still around at DM. Va. 61-0159 (cn D354) This Virginia Air National Guard F-105D escorted the P-47D out of RIC a few days or weeks after an airshow at Richmond in 1972. Dewey Draucker the pilot of 159 said: "I was flying the F-105D in the photo. The Thud was about as slow as it would go. I did not want to have to lower flaps in the picture". Bill Williams was flying the photo aircraft with Va.ANG photographer Robert Flournoy. The photo aircraft was a T-33. Va. ANG photo by Robert Flournoy via Kenneth W. Keeton |
