2-85 IIAF received 60 P-47Ds under US military aid program by Autumn 1949. Its pilots were trained in West Germany. The Thunderbolts were based in Ghaleh Morghi airport with the Second fighter regiment. All of the Thunderbolts were ex-USAFE based in Italy.Except for their external fuel tanks,all of their weapons such as free fall bombs ,unguided rockets and so on were supplied by US.This photo is taken during an exercise in Doshan Tappeh.2-85 were later crashed in 1954 and its pilot killed. |

KL216 / RS-L (cn 399-55834) Built in 1945 in Evansville, Indiana and delivered to the USAAF as 45-49295. Under the terms of the Mutual Assstance Pact she was flown in 1951 to Yugoslavia and subsequently served with the Yugoslav AF as 13064. She never flew with the RAF but is displayed in South East Asia Command markings of No. 30 Sqdn, which operated Thunderbolts between July 1944 and June 1946, when it re-equipped with Tempests. |
