PK-MVH (cn 746) First flying on 6.6.62, this Vanguard takes the honour of being both the last to be built and the last to perform a passenger service, in late Oct 1987 (Jakarta-Medan-Jakarta). Firstly CF-TKW with TCA and sold by Air Canada to EAS as F-BTOV 4.72, operating their final Vanguard pax flight Orly-Perpignan on 8.1.81; to Merpati in May that year. Sold back to EAS for spares and ferried to PGF 12.87. Remains apparently moved to a location in the Pyrenees near Spanish border for use as a rescue trainer |

SE-FTI (cn 744) A nice line of classics, typical of Southend in the Seventies. SE-FTI didn't last long as such and went on to Merpati, EAS and back to Merpati again. Next is G-BAMX looking as though it is badly corroded - broken up a year later. Then ex-EPA Carvair CF-EPW and Aer Turas DC-4 EI-ARS with UN High Commissioner for Refugees titles |

TF-JEJ (cn 727) This V.952 was first CF-TKD with TCA operating their inaugural westbound Trans Canada service with the type on 1.2.61 from Montreal to Vancouver. Sold to Air Holdings by Air Canada in 7.69 becoming G-AXOY. After a lease to Air Viking in 1970, to Thor from 2-6.71 (also had TF-JES). With Invicta 5.72-11.75 and operated the UK's last Vanguard passenger service, a LTN-LTN charter on 26.10.75. Bought by EAS as F-BXOH but never entered service being used for spares at Perpignan; broken up by the Eighties |

G-AXOP (cn 745) Seen here under maintenance a couple of months before my departure shot already on A.net, this is the ill-fated Vanguard that crashed on approach to Basle on 10.4.73 while operating a charter; less than a third of the 145 occupants survived, mainly in the tail section |

PK-MVA (cn 744) First leased by Merpati in 1974 in their eye-catching yellow and blue scheme as PK-MVC, this Vanguard returned to Indonesia in 1981 when bought from the French carrier Europe Air Service and ended its days there |

PK-MVC (cn 744) In close company with G-BAMX (PK-MVW), this was one of eight Vanguards leased or bought by Merpati in the Seventies, four ex-Air Canada and four ex-BEA. Originally CF-TKU to TCA in 11.62, became G-AZNG with Air Holdings in 2.72 and leased to Air Trader (SE-FTI) for the latter half of the year. To PK-MVC 8.73 but officially back to G-AZNG 4.74, then F-BVUY for EAS in 11.74. Bought back by Merpati in 3.81, this time as PK-MVA and stored at JKT from 11.85 (see my 1983 shot), being scrapped by 1994 |
