Westland Wyvern TF1
Yeovilton (YEO / EGDY)
UK - England, September 7, 1973
Remark
Photographer
VR137 Although the Wyvern was designed as a turboprop-powered carrier-based strike aircraft, VR137 was built in 1947 at Yeovil as the seventh and last preproduction TF.Mk.1. It was the sole one fitted with a 2,690 hp Rolls-Royce Eagle 22 24-cylinder sleeve valve flat-H piston engine, but was never flown. Of the 127 built, this is the only survivor

Westland Wyvern TF1
Yeovilton (YEO / EGDY)
UK - England, April 23, 2005
Remark
Photographer
VR137 The ultimate propeller-engined fighter, and the only surviving example in the world. Powered by the mighty 2,700 hp Rolls Royce Eagle 22 engine, she was built at Yeovil in 1947 - the last production Wyvern. Capable of sustained level flight at 456 mph at 23,000 feet. An absolutely breathtaking aircraft.

Westland Wyvern TF1
Yeovilton (YEO / EGDY)
UK - England, April 23, 2005
Remark
Photographer
VR137 The Westland Wyvern began life as a 'Torpedo Fighter', intended to operate as daylight fighter and torpedo bomber. In total 127 of the amazing post-war twin-prop aircraft were built. However, after a lot of in-service problems all but one were scrapped. This, the Rolls-Royce Eagle engined prototype, is the only one in the world to survive. Preserved at the Fleet Air Arm Museum with Concorde and Hunter (XL580).
