Yakovlev Yak-141
Monino
Russia, August 21, 2010
Remark
Photographer
141 (cn 48-3) Yak-141/41/41M (Freestyle), is a supersonic VTOL fighter aircraft from the Soviet Union. On 05.10.1991, Vladimir A. Yakimov made a hard vertical landing on the aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov (ex-Baku) in 48-3 (77 WHITE). The undercarriage ruptured a fuel tank, causing a serious fire. After almost 30 seconds, Yakimov ejected successfully, and was rescued from the sea. The aircraft was later repaired and placed on display at the Russian Air Force Museum at Monino.

Yakovlev Yak-141
Farnborough (FAB / EGLF)
UK - England, September 1992
Remark
Photographer
141 (cn 141) Rare low res photo of the sole Russia - Navy Yak-141 (NATO Codename: Freestyle) hovering out of ground effect at the 1992 Farnborough Airshow, with landing gear down. Note the open inlet door for the forward Lift Engine (and open lower doors) and the down-turned Engine nozzle at rear. (The aircraft had been on static display at Farnborough and the flying display surprised us.) This was the first time this aircraft type had been seen in the West.
