It was declared the winner over the Boeing X-32 in 2001. The CATB is a modified Boeing 737-300 used to test the mission systems of the F-35 Lightning II. The external modifications include a sensor wing forward of the main wing, added structure on the top and at the bottom of the fuselage and a modified nose representing the F-35 nose.
