First flight 10.6.70 as PH-ZAT with Fokker, del 8.7.70 as VH-FKB to MacRobertson Miller Airlines (MMA) named “RMA Kimberley” (RMA was for Royal Mail Aircraft). MMA was renamed Airlines of Western Australia 1.7.81, then Ansett WA 23.6.84, sold to Air Niugini as P2-ANH on 29.9.89, w/o 17.11.97 Nadzab, Lae, PNG in belly landing after undercarriage failure, BU for parts in early 1999. |

The two Mayne-Bristow Helicopters hangars are visible, as is the old terminal. Behind are the salt flats and the Burrup Peninsula, with Parker Point iron-ore ship loading jetty just visible. Learmonth is shared with the RAAF and you can see their dispersals at the upper part of the photo. The civilian terminal is near the little patch of green grass in the centre. View north-west of Dampier town, built 10 years earlier built by Hamersley Iron to house their workers employed on the port, iron ore processing plant & railways. An iron ore ship is docked at East Intercourse Island, and to the left is the salt loading jetty at Mistaken Island. This F28 stayed with MMA (renamed Airlines of Western Australia, then Ansett WA) for most of its life. WFU 21.4.94 & BU at Melbourne. |
