After a "non parallel" downwind leg (45°), the Captain starts a SINGLE turn at 600 feet (600 !!!). While turning and descending, we remain at the perfect level ("2 white - 2 red level" at the papi lights, left side) and, here, almost on the rwy we still have a serious and unusual bank angle. WOW, great skills, Captain. |

9Q-CCW (cn 263) This is why flying in Congo has so much attraction to pilots: right after take off from Shabunda (FZMW), the pilot banks the empty CASA to the right, to make a low pass over the river nearby. |

482 (cn 14803035) In the woods northeast of Berlin is this former Russian airbase, which now hosts a collection of mostly East German aircraft, the Yak-28R in the background being an exception. The Il-14 was built by VEB Flugzeugbau Dresden in 1958. It served as a government transport as DM-VAD, and then in the Air Force as 482 |

9N-A** I have enjoyed watching take-offs and landings from this spectacular strip. Take-offs do not seem as scary as the landings in Lukla with the vertical wall at other end Rwy 24 and no second chance for a go-around. The lift-off is just past the half way point on the runway. Runway elevation is 9,200 feet, mountain ahead at about 12,000 feet. All flights clear the mountain en-route to Kathmandu. |

EC-HKN (cn 1347) Too low!!!! I was shooting a/c on Rwy 20 when I realised that this 320 was approaching way too low and turned the camera to capture it. Fortunately the truck driver hit the brakes before passing below! As you can see, you can get really close to the action here. (As of mid-June 2001 this road section has been closed and deviated) Aircraft was re-registred EC-HUL in July 2001. See a normal approach |
