NR105W (cn 122) The 'Winnie Mae', a special Lockheed Model 5C Vega flown by famed aviator Wiley Post, completed two around-the-world record flights and a series of special high-altitude substratospheric research flights. It was named for the daughter of its original owner, F. C. Hall, who hired Post to pilot the plane, which had been purchased in June 1930. Preserved at the NASM Udvar-Hazy Center. |

EW-275TI (cn 00347210) Approaching the runway in heavy rain in the late afternoon, with the runway light well visible through the wet windows of the An-12's glase nose. Seconds later a go-around was initiated to demonstrate the performance of this freighter. Built in 1970, it was registered as RA-13392 in may 1993 and operated by Airstars, and later by Kosmos Aviation. Many thanks to the great Ruby Star crew, Airevents and Merlintour, without their connections and organisation this photo would not have been possible to take. |

OV-103 (cn OV-103) At dusk, a strange looking convoy leaves the KSC Shuttle Landing strip and heads towards the heart of KSC at a crawl. A tractor tow vehicle pulls Discovery along a two mile tow-way from the SLF to the Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF), a structure similar in design to a sophisticated aircraft hangar, where processing Discovery for another flight begins. Note the texture of the orbiter's surface in the unusual green lighting of the convoy. A few hours ago, she was on fire and plunging to Earth. |
