An overview of Kai Tak taken by my late Father, probably in the late 1940s. Kai Tak looked a lot different than it does today, as does Kowloon. Seems like the IGS was not such a challenge for pilots in those days! |

This small airfield became operational on the 28th April 1941. The RAF flew Spitfires from here during WWII and was decommissioned in April 1946. These days it is used for much more leisurely pursuits such as the Cornish Parachute Centre and private flying. |

Jumpseat view of NRT's second runway, opened in 2002 after more than 10 years of - still unresolved - dispute with local landowners, that led the original project to be shifted to the north. The unusable south section, marked by red crosses, is split from the 2.180 m runway by a private property. The taxiway deviates around another property; due to lack of lateral separation, aircraft must hold for traffic on the runway before entering the by-pass. |

N747NA (cn 21441/306) NASA's SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy), the world's largest airborne telescope, is seen here after it's first flight to Moffett Field where many of the components where designed. Viewed from the tower at 0359 Zulu Time, you can see the radar terminal station in the lower right displaying, from left to right, the Class 'D' airspaces' of PAO, NUQ and Class 'C' airspace of SJC. The green blurs are aircraft flying around the area; including one on final to SJC. |

Interesting, at their website Sudan's CAA mentions 'HSGA' as ICAO-code for El Geneina in West-Darfur. Also, the website states there are two runways paved with concrete, which might not the case for the shorter runway. Mid-2007 an Egyptian company was constructing a new airport -a bit further out of town- with a tarmac runway. |

As the construction has nearly been completed, this new passenger terminal of Rio de Janeiro Santos Dumont Airport has come into life just a few days ago. Since we have a beautiful terminal like this which allows us to escape any harsh weather, being an aviation enthusiast, we pretty much lose our chance to walk onto the tarmac and aboard the airplane. Anyway, 15mm fisheye perspective shows you the 'cross section' of the boarding area. |

The former "Airport Hotel" (now renamed) is still here, so as the checkerboard hill. The areas under the IGS approach path are now occupied by high-rise blocks. [Canon S3IS ISO80 f6.3 1/125s] |

The south half of the runway and the south parking apron. The big blue building on the lower left was the Government Flying Service hangar, which is still kept quite intact. Kai Tak will probably keep her coastal line, and this area is planned to develop various tourist facilities including a cruise liner terminal, a heliport, a big district park, and hotels etc. Does this photo recall your memory that once you took off from here into the sky in the good old days?
