D-ABVE (cn 24741/787) As earth keeps its translation movement, the sun heads back south for the winter period. By the orientation of the runways here in Mexico City, photography during the winter months becomes a bit harder, but there are indeed some great possible angles if you press down the shutter button at the right time. In this frame Lufthansa flight 498 from Frankfurt is arriving just 8 or 9 minutes before the sun hides in the horizon. |

RA-86140 (cn 51483211102) No more runway left = Must rotate! Look at where the 1000 ft marker sign and where the plane is! One heart-stopping takeoff! The front gear of the plane actually got up before the '1' marker but the body remains heavy. I think the pilots know exactly where to rotate. The Ilyushin also kicked up a large sandstorm on the beach and it was barely above it after finally airborne. IL86 is such a beast! [Nikon D2x, High speed crop mode] |

The runways are 750 ft apart, so there is still plenty of room between them. Incidentally, Lufthansa 455 is seen here returning to SFO due to an oil leak and eventual shutdown of the number 2 engine. Note rudder is deflected to the right compensating for the failed engine on the left side. |

B-18201 (cn 28709/1114) TCAS is ringing!? I am not quite sure; but, as I used 300 mm lens, I think it looks closer than real. I have no idea what the NCA pilots tried to achieve as they only departed from runway 7L to make a left turn heading for Japan which eventually encountered with China Airlines 747 departing from runway 32 (longest runway which all the heavies departed from on that day). Anyway, it was a nice opportunity for me to capture this scene with the morning orange hue. |

9M-MRI (cn 28416/155) About 10 seconds after liftoff from runway 19R something happens with the left engine. Alot of smoke and fragments of metal and other material falls down on the runway. At first the pilots don't get any indications in the cockpit and plan to go on to Kuala Lumpur. Then we decide to call Arlanda duty officer to make sure that they have noticed the pieces from the engine on the runway. Shortly after that the pilots requests fueldump and return to ARN safely. N392AN (cn 29429/700) At 2300LT of July 20th 2007 the Amazonic ACC had an electrical collapse due human failure and ALL frequencies got down. The planes couldn´t enter at flight information region and those in flight must land immediately at the first airport available. SBEG received 3 flights on that night: one of TAM en route to MIA and two AA, a Triple Seven to MIA and this 767 to DFW. Both American planes departed only at 0530AM LT. This is my 100th pic at A.net! |
