3-133 From Jan to May 1963, IIAF sent four F-86Fs (3-133,3-140,3-146 & 3-150) to the Congo for UN operations. The unit was apparently named 103rd Tactical Fighter Squadron for the duration. Five Swedish Air Force J-29B Tunnans and five Philippines Air Force Sabres are also visible in a lineup in right side of photo. Eight of best F-86 pilots of Vahdati AB together with 33 ground crew and their four Sabres entered in Kamina on 19 Jan 1963. This photo is taken from a UH-19D via Brig-Genral Khatami`s camera.

NC86509 (cn 2030) This 049 Connie was delivered to TWA on 29 January 1946 and named "Star of Africa". It is seen just after take-off with nose and main gear nearly retracted. She amassed 42,955 hours before retirement and sale in 1962. Obtained from TWA 60 years ago.

N91069 / 612 (cn 10363) Delivered to US Navy as R5D-1 Bu50841 in August 1944. Converted to DC-4 standard by Douglas in September 1946. Served Pennsylvania Central Airlines until April 1948 when name changed to Capital Airlines. Named "Capitaliner Youngstown". Seen with downtown Washington in background. Capital merged into United on 1 June 1961 and this DC-4 was sold in August that year. Obtained from Capital 60 years ago.

NC1940 / 401 (cn 1998) First flew in early 1940 as NX19906, and reregistered that year as NC1940 to match year of construction. Served on US coast-to-coast services. TWA flew 5 of the 10 307s built. Impressed as C-75 42-88623. Returned to TWA in 1945 as NC19906. Used on US regional services. Sold in 1951 to Aigle Azur as F-BELU. From TWA 60 years ago.

DS778 The vast majority of Lancasters were powered by the inline Merlin engine. This is one of 200 powered by the Bristol Hercules radial engine. They were built in 1942/43 by Armstrong Whitworth as an insurance against shortages of Merlins. DS778 was flown by 408 (Canadian) Squadron based at RAF Balderton, Notts. It was lost on a raid on Kassel on 23 October 1943. From AWA 60 years ago.

At far right is ANA's Douglas DC-5 VH-ARD (c/n 426) which was sold to Israel in 1948 and after use as a training airframe, and being the last type survivor, was scrapped in 1955.
