Flying in the mountains gave me a ton of photo oppertunities. This is possibly the coolest, located at the top of a mountain near Asheville the airport elevation is 4,400 feet and the tallest part of the mountain was 6,000 feet. You need permission to land there but it looks like there is a nice resort and golf course next to it. Notice the vibrant colours of the leaves as they start to turn. |

In the end of 2009 Qantas re-routed this flight 150 km to the north from its former route, giving some good diversity to relatively poor air traffic over my home. Now, after ANZ switched to 772s on their flight AKL-HKG-LHR, Qantas became the only airline flying pax 744s here every day during daytime. VH-OEJ (cn 32914/1331) Being 16,000 kilometers from home is all worth it if you bump into some great people, get to explore an awesome country and simply have a good time. After some days in Sydney Virgin Blue dropped me off at a wintery Melbourne, and during the few days I spent here this one for sure was the crappiest weatherwise. Still, not much you can do apart from firing the shutter when Qantas' -OEJ lines up and rotates right in front of you... A hundred percent Wunala Dreaming! I had success with this location once before about a year ago and thought I would give it a try once again. 9M-MPD (cn 25701/997) Wow, I was lucky to get this one! While taking a shot of a SQ74 just south of this location, an LAPD motorcycle officer stopped to see what I was doing. As we talked, I spotted "Hibiscus" on downwind. Boy did I get excited! I told the officer how rare it was for this plane to visit LAX and I would love to get a shot of it. Luckily I made it back to this location with one minute to spare. So here she is, crossing Sepulveda Blvd. with the In-N-Out and small park just across the street in the background. |

Looking down at the cargo ramp the ground crew of "ABX179" (N957AX) were still loading up this baby 9 as a cold front was moving in on TUL from the north. "UPS 741" has its engines running and is ready to taxi to 36R to get out before the Tstrms move in. In the distance a AA MD-80 is slowing down on 36R after arriving from DFW. [20D/18-55] |
