The second officer was flying the airplane while the first officer requests a slightly right turn by ATC to avoid some conflicting weather in front of us. We were cleared for the visual approach for runway 11 and during the approach we had a view on the truly Caribbean trademark: the blue sea and its cool white beaches. TF-FET / 249 (cn 28-7305182) Part of the current Volcanic Eruption in South of Iceland - seen from the right front seat. Quite unusual (at midday) to able to see red-hot lava stream falling off cliffs. Moments after this a sightseeing helicopter (going the other way) passed between us and the mountain. Those 15 min we were there five other planes and helicopters were in the "flight pattern" at various levels from 4,000 to 5,500 feet. Great thanks to pilot Sigmundur Andrésson for the ride! VT-IWB (cn 362) This is what the view looks like from the cockpit when your speeding over land at FL 390 or 39000 feet. There is just a sea of emptiness except for the occasional aircraft flying across or along with you. Since we are flying in a north easterly direction, we encountered lots of traffic crossing us from the west heading the east. The most beautiful one was the CX 744F Silverbullet. Optimum cruise altitude as shown by this beautiful piece of technology was FL 410, but we were denied clearence from 390 up to 410. (Canon 50D + Sigma 8mm Fisheye) |
