925 black The moment my heart stopped! A Russian MiG-29 925 has just smashed into the ground having collided with her sister 526 during their air display at the 1993 IAT. At this point I thought the pilot was still in the plane though he had already escaped without injury. If you look carefully to the right of the photo the MiG's tail fin can be seen bouncing away from the wreckage and other flying debris is visible. A moment I will never forget. |

This shot was taken two days later when teams had arrived to take the wreckage away to the AAIB at Farnborough. |

According to latest news the aircraft ran short of fuel due to the higher consumption and therefore had to perform an emergency landing in VIE. The pilot was forced to approach Rwy 34 without engine performance! The aircraft touched the ground at 13:31 local time a few hundred meters before the runway threshold and ran through the ILS-localizer-antenna. |

OK-MDE (cn 86601202) This aircraft crash-landed at Nicosia's airport, runway 14 while operating flight CSA 531 from Damascus on 29 August 1973. It overran the runway and veered to the right, 150 m short of the runway end. Thank God no fatalities were reported among the 70 passengers and crew. Since then, the wreckage is situated at the actual place of the accident, 150 m from the edge of the runway. The flag of the former Czechoslovakia is still visible on the fin! |
