During "Kona Wind" (southerly) operations at HNL, all arriving airliners are defaulted to the LDA/DME runway 26L, a non-precision approach with the localizer offset by 45° from runways 26L and 26R. Taking you past Diamond Head, Waikiki Beach and downtown Honolulu before the final turn toward the runway, this approach is always a thrill to both the pilots and passengers. N489HA is pictured making the final turn on the circle-to-land segment for runway 26R, after completing the LDA/DME 26L approach. |
