N390TH / 297849/O-J (cn 8643) The Sperry ball turret was very small in order to reduce drag, and was typically operated by the shortest man of the crew. The gunner "sat" in the turret with their back and head against the rear wall, their hips at the bottom, and their legs held in mid-air by two footrests on the front wall. The Sperry ball turret could spin 360 degrees, making it impractical to store much ammunition outside the turret. |

NL93012 / 231909/OR-R/A (cn 32216) Very lonely seat in the nose with spectacular view in every direction. Two belt fed heavy machine guns on the right and left are good company though if you have any uninvited visitors. The uncomfortable looking chair is for the bombsight which can be seen here too. Imagine being in that seat 60 years ago over Germany.... |

26 white (cn unknown) Not sure whether an Ekranoplan really counts as an aircraft, but here is the beast on the Moscow river to form part of a new museum. It is located in Tushino, near the park and metro station 'Schodnenskaya'. Photo taken from a friendly owner's houseboat |
