4X-OYG (cn 1191) This Israeli Cozy Mark IV on its way from Oskosh, landed at Reykjavík at 19:34 and when the nose wheel touched the runway the wheel itself broke off at the end of the strut. In the photo it is seen flying off and just about to strike the fuselage. Fortunately this did not cause any more trouble than the fiber strut making smoke and leaving a white line on the runway, taxiway and ramp. Could have been a lot worse. |

An old drug runners paradise, Norman's cay. Pablo Escobar used this island as a half way point to smuggle cocaine into the United States, around the island you can find planes ditched into the ocean and the pine trees. Now Norman's Cay has been cleaned up and is a great spot to go and lie on the beach. The runway is still wet from an earlier rain shower and in terrible condition with many potholes and cracks in it. F-WWJB (cn 007) I had to sprint about 200 yards to get this shot. I saw the A380 cross LAX at 10,000 feet on a diagonal and start to make the turn to base. By the time I parked my car at the Proud Bird restaurant I had about 30 seconds to get into position and take the shot. This is the result: All 22 wheels of this monster are about to touchdown on 25L. |
