60-0051 / MT (cn 464416) Cockpit of a special B-52. Flying into Houston which is the Mission Control for NASA and the home base for the astronauts, this aircraft from the 307th Bomb Wing, Barksdale Air Force Base, Lousiana, flew special "Return to Human Spaceflight/Failure is not an Option" nose art designed by B-52 crew member Captain Kerry Baker. Also, the names of Astronaut Neil Armstrong and Flight Director Gene Kranz was painted on the window rails. Thank you Col. Jones, Capt. Baker and crew for supporting human spaceflight.

The shuttle stack's (orbiter + external tank + 2 solid rocket boosters) height: 56.14 m (184.2 feet) tall. It sits on the mobile launch platform (MLP) which is 7.6 m (25 feet) tall. The MLP rest on the transporter which is approx. 6.1 m (20 feet) tall. Total height = 69.84 m (223.13 feet). The United Space Alliance workers at the different levels show the scale of this vehicle.

Boeing KC-135R Stratotanker (717-148)
In Flight
Germany, October 2010
Remark
Photographer
63-7993 (cn 18610) This is how we do it....During the 2010 TigerMeet we had this awesome photo join-up 7000 feet over Germany. We are used to having vintage aircraft, warbirds and jets posing behind the Skyvan photoship, but seeing a real tanker was an absolute highlight of the year! Despite the size of the aircraft, it was a very easy and stable photoflight, much to the delight of all photographers onboard of course; normally they would take air-to-air photos from a tanker, but seeing one behind you is really véry cool ;)

OV-103 (cn OV-103) "Discovery" departs High Bay #1 for the last time (39th flight) on the mobile launch platform that she will fly off on STS-133. She has been mated to rest of the stack (ET + 2 SRBs) over the last week. With assembly/checkout done, the crawler-transporter entered, picked up the MLP + "the stack" and carried them to launch pad 39A. Thousands of adoring KSC workers were outside to cheer her on for the 3.5 mile trip at 0.8MPH. So Long Discovery!

Remark

OV-103 (cn OV-103) The lift of the space shuttle orbiter began on the night of the 09/09 and extended into the early morning hours of 09/10. Here she is being rotated and lifted up. She will be further carried to the top and the rotated slightly before being moved horizontaly into the high bay that has the external fuel tank and solid rocket boosters for the upcoming STS-133. She will then be brought back down a bit to be bolted on the side of the rest of the stack. It is long, slow and precise crane operation by the best.

N171UA (cn 24322/733) Smoke on! Powerful and smoky departure by this 747 as it takes off on a long flight to Hong Kong. In the back you can see a BA 777 about to touchdown and much farther behind it the faint lights of an A-320. Meanwhile some aircraft are waiting to line up.
