Awkward crop due to jet out racing panning with a handheld Canon 1Ds MKIII + 600m L IS lens. Schlieren techniques have been used for decades in laboratory wind tunnels to visualize supersonic flow about model aircraft, but not full scale aircraft until recently. Dr. Leonard Weinstein of NASA Langley Research Center developed the first Schlieren camera but this picture is using a normal camera. |

This Hornet was very low and fast in the canyon and shortly afterwards put on the afterburner and climbed into the blue California sky. The camouflage fits well in this surrounding. Believe me, it was the experience of my trip to the States! Some people go to Wales for this stuff, I prefer the more sunny and warm conditions in California. |

J-5010 (cn 1345/SFC010) After spending the night with temps below the freezing level in sleeping bags in our car we were rewarded with a sunrise high above the low clouds hiking up the mountain to the Ebenfluh shooting range area. After some breakfast at approx. 2200m / 7220ft AMSL J-5010 and J-5016 kicked off their shooting practise session with some flares while coming up the valley still in the shade of the adjacent mountain. Taken at 400mm, f/16 and 1/80th of a second. |
