N206UW (cn 27808/666) [Canon 7D + Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM] Dusk has settled on SXM and US1563, as we make the turn back towards Charlotte, NC and the US mainland. One can tell how small the island of St. Maarten is, as its 87 sq km (33.6 sq mi) area easily fits into the frame. The airport runway is located in the thin strip of land just left of the wingtip, and Maho Beach lies on the left end of the runway. Thanks to Timo Breidenstein and Marseno Bremer for the great company during this trip. |

Overflying beautiful O'Hare VFR at 11,500' on our way back down south. You can clearly see Phase 1 (new northern east-west runway) of the construction program nearing completion as well as a little of Phase II (28 extension/new parallel runway) getting underway. |

Built in 1957 the L. C. Smith Terminal closed less than a month after this photo was taken. Once a modern jewel during the dawn of modern commercial jet travel, this terminal has reached the end of its useful life as a new North Terminal has taken its place. |
