NX224J / 252534/Q2-M (cn 1347) This B-24 was built by the Consolidated Aircraft Company in Fort Worth, TX in 1944 and delivered to the USAAF as “44-44052”. The B-24 was transferred to the Royal Air Force and the saw combat in the Pacific. After WWII the aircraft was abandoned by the RAF, but later flew with the Indian Air Force. After being stored in India and later the UK, the aircraft returned to the US in 1984 and was restored to flying condition. In 2005 the aircraft was repainted and named “Witchcraft“. ****** / 19. This photo was taken by William J. Butler Jr. when stationed at Taegu during the Korean War. He was a fire fighter. Submitted on his behalf by myself, William Butler, his son. My father passed away in '77, but never wanted to fly. I could not understand why 'til I found his air force photo album. Your photos live on, Dad! |

G-AMWC (cn 13128) Silver City's B170 Mk32s carried up to three cars and fourteen passengers plus a flight attendant. Lydd (then also known as Ferryfield) was purpose built for the airline. The main destination was Le Touquet. Flights also operated to Ostend, Calais and (in the summer) Deauville. During July and August in the early 1960s there were up to 120 air-ferry movements daily. Silver City Airways became part of British United Airways (BUA) in January 1963 and was renamed British United Air Ferries (BUAF). |
