RA-86140 (cn 51483211102) No more runway left = Must rotate! Look at where the 1000 ft marker sign and where the plane is! One heart-stopping takeoff! The front gear of the plane actually got up before the '1' marker but the body remains heavy. I think the pilots know exactly where to rotate. The Ilyushin also kicked up a large sandstorm on the beach and it was barely above it after finally airborne. IL86 is such a beast! [Nikon D2x, High speed crop mode] |

ZS-OSI (cn 46098/516) A heavy shower passed through the field and a very lucky break in the clouds after it shows off the big water spray effect as this classic aircraft departs from Runway 31 (400mm shot). It was testing new cockpit equipment before heading back to Manston. |

N479EV / 979 (cn 19898/94) Evergreen's new Supertanker visited Hahn during a European demonstration tour. Pictured here on a low approach releasing 20,000 gallons of water onto the runway. This aircraft started its life with Delta as N9898 in November 1970. Later registrations include B-1860 (China Airlines), EI-BOS (GPA) & N725PA (Pan Am). Joined the Evergreen fleet in April 1991. |

N544PS / 219 (cn 20367/832) Seen on short final landing runway 25R from FAT, while a heavy Delta Air Lines DC-8-61 N822E cn 45907/298 from ATL is cleared to land runway 25L. First flight was September 25, 1970. Delivery date was May 27, 1971. Other serials - N896N with Piedmont Airlines, and also N730US with USAir, Piedmont Airlines, and Dallas Aerospace. Stored at AMA, and was eventually broken-up. |
