802 / 139208 (cn 11282) This Douglas F5D Skylancer was one of four originally constructed and is the only example still in existence. It was flown by Neil A. Armstrong from September 1960 to September 1962 to simulate the flight characteristics of the space vehicle planned for use in Project Dyna-Soar. The Dyna-Soar program called for the launch of a winged craft which could re-enter the atmosphere and glide to a conventional landing following a mission in space. The Douglas F5 Skylancer sits on a pedestal in front of the museum |

G-SABR / 8178/FU-178 (cn 151-43547) Unusual view, but it gives a perfect view of the gear retracting sequence and now I noticed for the first time that the nose gear retracts and swivels 90 degrees while stowing in the limited space below the jet intake! The Sabre is piloted by Mark Linney, Chief Pilot of Golden Apple Operations Ltd. |

60-0059 / LA (cn 464424) The BUFF and a personal "follow me" to direct the aircraft towards its parking position at Geilenkirchen. The span of the B-52H was just too large to manouvre safely over the runway and taxiways, hence some personal assistance to check the clearance of the wing-tip wheels! |
