OV-103 (cn OV-103) "Discovery" rockets up and turns in the dawn sky as she carries out the trajectory shaping required to catch up with the International Space Station (which passed over Discovery as she sat at the planned T-9 minute countdown hold). The launch itself was from the bottom right of the picture. The winds have sheared the smoke trail and pushed it to the left. Looking down at the cargo ramp the ground crew of "ABX179" (N957AX) were still loading up this baby 9 as a cold front was moving in on TUL from the north. 1-X The very first Ares 1 rocket, standing as tall as a 33-story skyscraper and 40 stories on top of the Mobile Launch Platform and Crawler Transporter, slowly emerges from the massive Vehicle Assembly Building as it rolls out to Launch Pad 39B for the first test flight, Ares 1-X, October 20 2009. If the program goes forward, Ares is the manned replacement for the shuttle and could take astronauts back to the moon eventually. Third tallest rocket in history it is just shy of the record 363-foot Saturn V. |

Nightlife at RWY 31R in TWAN style. This is the best known spotting place in BUD, we called "patak" (watercourse or creek). The main lights are landing lights of airplanes. There are other airplane lights in the picture near the horizon. In the ground there are reflectors of cars. In the middle of circles the shortest strip is Polaris. The blue stars near the mid-horizon are stars of Big Dipper which is the best known formation in the northern sky, but this not constellation, it's only part of Ursa Maior. |

EW-275TI (cn 00347210) Approaching the runway in heavy rain in the late afternoon, with the runway light well visible through the wet windows of the An-12's glase nose. Seconds later a go-around was initiated to demonstrate the performance of this freighter. Built in 1970, it was registered as RA-13392 in may 1993 and operated by Airstars, and later by Kosmos Aviation.
