N741PA (cn 19648/17) Pan Am's 'Clipper Kit Carson' makes a historic First daytime touch-down on Rwy 16 at Sydney's new International Airport. Staff arranged stands so the public could see the First Boeing 747 arrival in Australia on 04Oct1970. Pan Am's B747-121 N734PA arrived at night, 9.5 hours late. Crowds turned out three days later when N741PA arrived on time. (Pan Am's First New York to London B747 Flight was on 21Jan1970.) Sydney has now seen the world's First A380 Airline arrival - Singapore Airlines 9V-SKA on 25Oct2007 |

The former airliners on display include the Boeing 707 'City of Canberra' VH-XBA; Boeing 747-238B 'City of Bunbury' VH-EBA & the old C47 'QANTAS empire Airways' VH-EAP. QANTAS, founded in Winton in 1920, moved its head office to Longreach in 1921 & served till 1930. |

N787EX (cn 40691/2) Dreamliner 002 doing crosswind testing at Keflavik this morning. The light was atrocious, but the winds were 25 gusting 30 knots, which is not as much as for the A380, when they were almost constantly blowing 45 knots. This shows the plane crabbing into runway 20 with the wind from the east. One can see the runway marker line like the aircraft is landing across it. |
