What a better way to start 2010?! Flying, of course! :) Passengers on this flight had the priviledge to overfly Funchal city, in a kind of new year's gift handed over by TAP, to this fully booked flight. We can see on the apron, from left to right: CS-DPA, G-USAR, CS-AIC, CS-TNQ, CS-TT*, OH-LBS, LZ-LDF, CS-TGV, CS-TFJ and CS-TGU. On the top left corner the "Pico do Facho" hill, the obstacle to avoid on landings on rwy 23 and take-offs from rwy 05. "Caniçal" village as background. Happy New Year 2010! :) |

N621DL (cn 22911/112) N621DL followed by LOT's SP-LPF, then a Lufthansa A340, an Aer Lingus A330 and so goes the line up. Also tucked back there is a 747 and the DL MD-80 can be seen in the distance. But you are only viewing a portion of the queue line which loops around the runway and back around JFK's terminals. The dog days of summer at JFK with the Empire State Building in the distance. The culprit? Weather delays have plagued the tri-state area this evening. |

In this WA view of the north side of LAX we can see the typical early afternoon operations. On the lower right side is terminal 1 dominated by Southwest . The next one to the left is terminal 2, the original international terminal. A KLM 74 Combi can be seen unloading cargo and preparing for its return flight. And just past terminal 3 is the north side of TBIT. A Cathay 773 can be seen just outside the alleyway after arrival. Also, the entire length of 24L is visible. |

N70529 (cn 49921/1752) Ship 529 waits for the ramp to reopen after the lightening subsides. This was a spectacular storm and I only went out to shoot pictures after about 30 minutes of nearly continuous lightening. Really a treat to watch, but not very conducive to a smooth operation. If anyone wonders why the ramp closes when lightening is in the area this should be explanation enough. This strike was just outside the perimeter fence but this storm produced hundreds of strikes within the fence, according to the detector equip. |

Frankfurt just a little while before the little opening of the airspace after it was shut down for more than 3,5 days. Saturday and Sunday Lufthansa brought a few 744's, 330's and 340's VFR from Munich to Frankfurt. Now the airport looks much more crowded than on Friday. Still an amazing sight, and very funny to fly over it as the big boys are not allowed to fly. This was the longest closure in aviation history and therefore a very historic event! |

Volcano Day, might be the words we could find in history book in a few years when they speak about his day. Frankfurt Airspace closed 8AM CEST, so no more landings or take-offs. You see several Lufthansa planes parked at hard stands. Almost none at the gates at the Terminals, just a few here and there. If standing on the runway you could hear birds whispering and no APU's at all. What an amazing day. On the most left is the new so called "cruise ship", the new Hotel complex onto of the Rail Center. |

One of my favourite pictures I have taken in the past 2 years. This picture show's a beautiful perspective between EHAM's beautiful tower, and the KLM-Delta alliance parked at the gates. And to finish it off, KLM's Skyteam 773 can also be seen. It was really really hard to get a good picture. There was some turbulence but I needed to get a high mm shot to bring the background forward. But I made a click and it worked out! |
