10271 (cn N6541) "Ho Chi Minh City Museum" F5s were delivered to the South Vietnamese Air Force by the end of the 1960's and fought with them until the fall of Saigon which ended the Vietnam War. Seen here at what was formerly Gia Long Palace, the last residence of the President of South Vietnam where he moved after his former residence, the Independence Palace, had been bombed by 2 mutinous pilots of the South Vietnamese Air Force in 1962. 01 Preserved inside the Lithuanian Air Force base at Siauliai. During the Cold War this airfield was under intense scrutiny, being a westerly Soviet fighter base. RAF crews frequently scrambled to intercept missions from here. The world has changed since then and now NATO forces (recently a squadron of RAF Tornados) are stationed at Siauliai, providing defence for the Baltic states themselves. All that remains of the past is this Soviet Sukhoi, with Red Star markings sympathetically painted out. |

It was a Star Fighter, which forced an Indian Gnat to surrender and land at Pasroor (Pakistan) in 1965. F-104 was a real threat for any enemy, when it used to be in air. Star Fighter was phased out of PAF in 1973. |
