Iceland, August 30, 1977
Remark
Photographer
63-7688 (cn 820) Doing a formation approach to runway 02. The tail paintwork on 63-7475 is starting to peel badly. Both aircraft arey carrying jamming pods on the inner pylons. The 57th pilots were not often caught doing formation landings, and I seem to remember these powering up and making single landings. 688 came to Iceland in July 1973 and left on May 5, 1978 to the ADWC.

Iceland, March 1978
Remark
Photographer
63-7589 (cn 644) 589 was the only F-4C painted like this. It came back from rework in Spina painted light glossy grey allover, the first such for the 57th FIS at least. Three others like it came back in this color before the squadron reequipped with F-4Es in 1978. Only 63-7618 got a small chekcerboard on the top of the fin after getting the grey treatment.

Lockheed F-104C Starfighter
Hampton - Langley AFB (LFI / KLFI)
USA - Virginia, August 1975
Remark
Photographer
57-0916 (cn 383-1233) The Puerto Rico ANG (or PRANG) was the last operational user of the Starfighter in the USAF (1968-75); never common in American use, the only others by this time were the natural finish aircraft of the Luftwaffe training unit at Luke AFB, AZ. Nice to see another Lockheed classic sharing the ramp. Langley AFB was the first airbase in the US, opened 1916.

Vought F7U-3M Cutlass
Pensacola - NAS / Forrest Sherman Field (NPA / KNPA)
USA - Florida, October 16, 2006
Remark
Photographer
129655 The gull-winged F7U Cutlass with its tailless, swept-wing profile was not a sucessful aircraft. All three XFU7-1 prototypes crashed. Later revisions were improved but still underpowered and suffered nosewheel issues. The F7U-3M was the missile-carrying variant. In March-1953, the USS Interpid sailed with Sparrow 1 missile equipped F7U-3Ms. Preserved at the National Museum of Naval Aviation.
