90-26230 (cn 70-1597) During the 920th Rescue Wing role demonstration at the 2011 edition of the Cocoa Beach airshow, this 308th Rescue Squadron HH-60 makes an attempt to show the public the various ways of extracting PJs from the water. Due to the high swells, rip currents and heave downdraft from the rotors, a wave breaks early, resulting in a wall of water engulfing the helicopter. The PJ never made it into the helicopter as the 'rescue’ was called off. |

OV-103 (cn OV-103) "Discovery" departs High Bay #1 for the last time (39th flight) on the mobile launch platform that she will fly off on STS-133. She has been mated to rest of the stack (ET + 2 SRBs) over the last week. With assembly/checkout done, the crawler-transporter entered, picked up the MLP + "the stack" and carried them to launch pad 39A. TF-UTA / 523 (cn 17265561) Taken close to the current eruption in southern Iceland, where molten lava has been coming up for a week. This is taken from CAP-10, TF-UFO through the plastic with a 28-70mm lens, as the closeness of the canopy does not allow a bigger lens. The lava fortunately came up between two glaciers, otherwise a major flood of melting glacier might have caused casualties and property damage. The eruption is at an altitude of 1100 meters and the temperature at the time of the photo was -15 degrees Centigrade. This has been a very big tourist attraction and many people have walked for over 5 hours from the south to the site and then back for another 5 hours. It took us 20 minutes from the airfield at Mosfellsbær. |

These pilots were caught in some wind shear, and it was really close to total disaster, since the wing almost touched the ground! You can also see the stress in main landing gear...
