USA - Air Force
McDonnell Douglas F-15D Eagle
Newcastle - Williamtown (NTL / YWLM)
Australia - New South Wales, September 1980
Remark
Photographer
78-0567 / ZZ (cn 489/D007) A near-new USAF F-15D taxies at RAAF Wiliamtown during an Exercise in September 1980. This aircraft carries missile rails and three external fuel tanks. This Eagle was from Kadena AFB, Okinawa, Japan. RAAF pilots had famil flights in this aircraft during the Exercise. One commented that the top-side of the Eagle looks as large as a Tennis Court! Newcastle Airport is across the Runway at left.

78-0567 / ZZ (cn 489/D007) A near-new USAF F-15B taxies toward the RAAF Wiliamtown Fighter Replenishment Area (FRA) during an Exercise in September 1980. This aircraft carries AIM-9L Sidewinder missiles and three external fuel tanks. This Eagle was from Kadena AFB, Okinawa, Japan, and was still in service in 2004 as an F-15D. RAAF pilots had famil flights in this aircraft during the Exercise, and RAAF 77Sqn troops changed the ZZ code to 77 overnight!
