As we cruise into the Summer months, lightning and heavy rain starts to become more common in the late afternoon and night time. This large storm out to the west of the airfield was brewing most of the evening before hitting around 8:30pm with heavy rain which can be seen. We had to follow the An-12 that is still on the runway, through the Kabul valley. Not too hard since she left a huge smoke trail for us to follow. Ahead of the runway are the suburbs of Kabul, the huge hills and beyond those you can clearly see the icy peaks of the HinduKush mountains (19.000ft ASL). Imagine the performance calculations needed for a heavy departure! What a view. |

FA-87 (cn 6H-87) No, he's not coming in for fuel behind the tanker....Cmdr 'Vrieske' is just showing the most beautifull tiger of the 2009 TigerMeet to our guests onboard the Skyvan photoship; some kids of airbase personell and my special guest for that week, the iconic Katsuhiko Tokunaga. Needless to say that they all had a great time! The Skyvan is among the best photoships in Europe, as it offers an unprecedented view in a clear sky, nothing but clear air between the photographers and the posing aircraft. |
