Unfortunately only the niches of the massive Buddha-statues (55-37meters high) remain visible since the statues themselves were destroyed in 2001. Late night view over Terminal One while waiting for the 00:40 KLM flight to Amsterdam. I have never seen shopping frenzy as bad as at this airport with people commonly stacking the shopping carts fully with candy and what else. Bring 6 or more large plastic bags to the airplane is "carry-on" like I have never seen before. |

9N-AJH (cn 8198) Welcome to Lukla, Tenzing-Hillary Airport, Nepal situated at 9,100 feet above sea level. This is also the World's Most Dangerous Airport. Accident happened frequently with a downhill sloping runway (12% gradient) make things very interesting. Aircraft use runway 06 only for landings and runway 24 for takeoffs. Due to the terrain, there is no prospect of a successful go-around on short final. One word: Spectacular! [Nikon D300] |

OV-105 (cn OV-105) It is 0400H and the 3rd shift crew has just lifted “Endeavour” off the Orbiter Transporter System (OTS). This will allow the 90 degree rotation needed to get into ET/SRB mate position. They are seen in High Bay #3 (right side) already “stacked” on top of the Mobile Launch Platform (MLP). Often missed is the dedication & absolute brilliance of the thousands of unheralded workers who carry out the very serious shuttle ops. These men & women deserve better than layoffs at the end of the program. |
