Frankfurt am Main (Rhein-Main AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF)
Germany, April 18, 2010
Remark
Photographer
Due to the volcanic eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull at Iceland and the following closure of major parts of the european airspace many airports currently look like this! Especially in Europe the situation is quite strange and also a bit scary. In this picture MH B744 9M-MPK, IR B747SP EP-IAA, NZ B772 ZK-OKE, QR A346 A7-AGC, CX A343 B-HXF, TG B744 HS-TGX, BA 772 G-VIIU and AI B772LR VT-ALA, most of them originally bound for Heathrow and Charles-de-Gaulle.

Frankfurt am Main (Rhein-Main AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF)
Germany, April 18, 2010
Remark
Photographer
The complete maintenance base is blocked, outside positions are full of Lufthansa widebodies and only the terminal is empty. If you take a closer look a lonesome Austrian A321 is holding the fort. Thanks to Eyjafjallajökull for this once-in-a-hundred-years event! If you think controllers have no work to do then ask for VFR traffic crossing the field every second. Even sailplanes were around today!

Lufthansa Regional (Lufthansa CityLine)
British Aerospace Avro 146-RJ85
Munich (- Franz Josef Strauss) (MUC / EDDM)
Germany, April 17, 2010
Remark
Photographer
D-AVRC (cn E2251) After being closed the day before due to the volcanic ash cloud, the airport of Munich has come to a complete standstill! LH's regional fleet of Avro RJs, CRJ and Dash 8 is seen sitting on the ground, with most of the engines and all ports and inlets covered to prevent any ash coming in. It looks like the whole airport has been put in storage...

Frankfurt am Main (Rhein-Main AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF)
Germany, April 16, 2010
Remark
Photographer
Volcano Day, might be the words we could find in history book in a few years when they speak about his day. Frankfurt Airspace closed 8AM CEST, so no more landings or take-offs. You see several Lufthansa planes parked at hard stands. Almost none at the gates at the Terminals, just a few here and there. If standing on the runway you could hear birds whispering and no APU's at all. What an amazing day. On the most left is the new so called "cruise ship", the new Hotel complex onto of the Rail Center.

Singapore Airlines
Airbus A380-841
Singapore - Changi (SIN / WSSS)
Singapore, April 17, 2010
Remark
Photographer
How many A380s can you count in this shot? Due to the recent volcanic eruption in Iceland, many flights to and from Europe have been cancelled, leaving 7 SQ A380s (1 not in this shot) and 2 QF A380s stranded in Singapore, amongst other aircraft. If you look closely to the left you can also spot 9V-SPP, SQ's Star Alliance 744.

Air Tahiti Nui
Airbus A340-313
Los Angeles - International (LAX / KLAX)
USA - California, April 17, 2010
Remark
Photographer
F-OSUN (cn 446) Quite an unusual site for LAX, but as everyone knows the volcanic action in Iceland has created havoc all over the world. So consequently planes are stranded, and parked in unusual locations. Case in point these two Air Tahiti Nui 340’s are parked at the ramp in front of the Flight Path Learning Center on the south side of the field. Very unusual. To the left we see a Shanghai Cargo MD-11 doing it’s thing, and a KLM 74 visible, and just out of sight a BA 74 both waiting for the word to go home.
