It was delivered to Singapore Airlines in 1980, and subsequently served around the world, including stints with Aerolineas Argentinas, Korean Air, and Air Plus Comet. Here, the upper deck has been stripped of parts (not to mention a chunk of wall), some of which will end up as museum pieces. Sadly, this aircraft met its final demise in late April 2013. |

Once that happened, the aircraft spun around 180 degrees in the grass, coming to a stop, engine still running. The nose gear kept the prop from hitting the ground, saving the engine. It is pretty interesting to see the old passenger door "plugged up" and a new smaller one appearing closer to the cockpit, just to make room for that giant cargo door. You can see the obvious difference in sizes of the two doors, and the areas of which they worked on. Pretty soon, this bird will look much cleaner and fly cargo! |

ZG994 (cn 2206) This photo shows the remains of aircraft recovered by Forward Support (Fixed Wing) HQ at RAF St Athan following accidents. Islander ZG994 had crashed near Middle Wallop in 1999 and had subsequently been taken to BN Bembridge for use as an avionics trainer but then abandoned. Alongside it are U.S. Marines AV-8B ***542 (Code 38), Jet Provost XS180 (Instructional Airframe Number 8238M) and Harrier GR3 XZ993. Note missing chin gun, and no EO pod, suggesting that this is one of the few IAF Hinds not sporting the IAI upgrade package. This heli was part of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Congo, and has been photographed before in 2003. |

VH-OQJ (cn 062) The world's first dual A380 flyover happened today in Sydney. Flying in close formation, this occasion marked the official start of a historic partnership between Qantas Airways and Emirates. The flyover was done under a special call sign "Seismic", as Tim Clark says the EK-QF partnership had caused seismic shift in the global aviation. Interestingly, Delta-Yankee disappeared from the radar after takeoff - was the TCAS system switched off? I quite like how the two prominent tails aligns one another. |
