D-ACEX (cn 460) slide scan from the NK slide collection. Lufthansa operated a fleet of 11 Convairs, and D-ACEX was one of four aircraft which were sold to Air Algerie and converted to -640 standard with Dart turbines. Finally flown in Canada as C-GQCY, the Convair was b/u at Springbank, Calgary in 2005.

SX-DAI (cn 45544/1026) "Isle of Kreta" served Olympic from December 1958 until badly damaged in a heavy landing at Corfu in November 1970 and was broken up. The Heathrow marshaller is waving his batons frantically to help park the 6B.

A view of the terminal area just before completion of the third International Pier (top), extended terminal and multi-storey car park. A Laker DC-10 is at the end of Pier Two and a Dan-Air Comet is in the middle of a line of BAC 1-11's (left). Obtained 40 years ago.

G-APAV (cn 13263) During this period two Super Freighters were painted in Sabena colours to operate a pooled route between Southend and Ostend. From time to time one of the Super Freighters was configured to a 60 seater to provide additional passenger capacity on the route. During 1962 owner Channel Air Bridge at Southend and Silver City at Lydd worked in close association with each other and finally merged into what became British United Air Ferries on 1st January 1963. This is the last Bristol 170 built.

Taken shortly after the war's end by a Spitfire PR.XI of 541 Squadron. The wartime three-runway layout is shown, with 06-24 slanting from left centre to upper right. Over 120 Lockheed Hudsons and Venturas and N.A. Mustang I's are being scrapped on the top dispersals. Two newly built Avro Yorks are nearby. Douglas C-47's of the based No. 1 Parachute Training School are parked at centre left. A visiting silver USAAF B-17 is nearby. Obtained over 50 years ago.
