BKS Air Transport
Airspeed AS-57 Ambassador 2
Newcastle - Woolsington (NCL / EGNT)
UK - England, August 1, 1960
Remark
Photographer
G-AMAC (cn 5225) Having just arrived at Newcastle from Southend in the revised company colours for the type, awaiting its first schedule service for the airline. Served with BKS for 7 years before being withdrawn after flying its last schedule service from Belfast to Newcastle 31 Oct 1967. I was lucky enough to flying in this aircraft and others in the fleet all around Europe within the BKS schedule network and the odd charter.

USA - Air Force
Bell X-1
Off-Airport - Washington
USA - District of Columbia, May 15, 2004
Remark
Photographer
46-0062 The diminutive Bell X-1 rocket research plane was, of course, the world's first aircraft to break the "sound barrier" and achieve supersonic flight on Oct. 14, 1947. This aircraft was named by General "Chuck" Yeager after his wife as "Glamorous Glennis". The aircraft's conical nose, modeled on the lines of a .50 caliber bullet is clearly visible. This angle shows how it looked as it dropped from a B-29 before rocket firing almost 50 years ago.

Goodhart can be seen behind the left wheel of the aircraft. This system was first adopted by the Royal Navy and was subsequently used by all other navies. Note arrestor wire at full stretch, which will be unhooked once the aircraft has stopped and automatically drawn aft, to await the next aircraft.
