CR831 Sri Lanka had a long reliance on 748s that served in Air Ceylon and Sri Lanka Air Force. # 2 Squadron used 5 (including one ex Air Ceylon) as an air bridge to supply the beleaguered northern Jaffna garrison from 1983 to 1995. These aircrafts did the 45 minute flight to the battlefront 24/7. In April 1995, two were lost to MANPADS on consecutive days with the loss of all aboard. Tactics were changed and An-32Bs with electronic countermeasures were introduced. The surviving three soldiered on till 2003. |

ZS-SBV (cn 1692) According "Aviation Safety Network" aircraft was bought in November 1983 by Austin Airways. Air Creebec bought the plane in December 1988. At Rivière-au-Saumon, QC (Canada) during take-off for a domectic flight the no. 2 engine exploded on take-off. A fire erupted and the takeoff was aborted. Of the 35 people on board there were no fatalities. Plane written off. |
